Artist Statement for Wiggle Traces Series

This work is based on visual data used in petroleum geology. The collage pieces use slices of “lines” or seismic reflections combined with cyanotypes created by dripping water on cyanotype coated paper. The colored pencil marks are made by geologists’ interpretations of the data.

 

The drawings/watercolors are free hand, blind contour drawings of data in a line. I have also combined elements from line data with ink drawings of my weedy garden.
